they don't specify if n is an integer or not and it's a good sign that it's not. So I E is the answer

Is n/18 an integer?

(1) 5n/18 is an integer.

(2) 3n/18 is an integer.


i. is sufficient. if 5n/18 is an integer, n should be a multiple of 18. therefore, n/18 sould be an integer.
ii is nsf.

A.

(1) Not sure about that, Himalayan. Because the question does not state clearly n is an interger, n can be a fraction => n/18 can be a fraction as well.

(E) it is


you are absolutly correct.

previously i thought n is an integer but when i realized the fact that n is not an integer, i deleted my post but you caught it..

I think the answer is 'C'.

stmt1: INSUFF as it n/18 can be integer or fraction like 1/5
stmt2: same way as stmt1 INSUFF

Taking them together:
for stmt1 and stmt2 to be together true, the n/18 should be an integer.
hence SUFF

is n/18 = integer ?

in order for n/18 to be an integer n has to be greater then or equal to 18.

n>= 18

Statement 1

5*n/18 = integer

n can be 18/5 or 18

less or equal to 18.

insufficient

Statement 2

3*n/18 = integer

n can be 6 or 18

less or equal to 18.

insufficent

Statements 1&2

3*n/18 , 5*n/18

the only way n can be an integer is when n >= 18

sufficient

the answer is then (C)

Prime factors of 5n/18 = 5, 3, 2, 2
Prime factors of 3n/18 = 3, 3, 2, 2

So for n/18 to be an integer, it would need to be divisible by 18...using the prime factors of both statements, 3*3*2=18...sufficient...
