If Joan paid 100$, then he must have earned a bit less than ~6700$.
80$+0,03*~700=100$

(A) 0 < X < 4,000
(B) 4,000 < X < 6,000
(C) 6,000 < X < 8,000
(D) 8,000 < X < 10,000
(E) 10,000 < X < 15,000

We see that Joan could not have made more than 8,000 dollars since she would have to pay more than 140 dollars in taxes.

Let’s check what she would owe if she made 7,000 dollars:

80 + 0.03(7,000) = 80 + 21 = 101

We see that Joan must have made a touch under 7,000 dollars, so 6,000 < X < 8,000.

Answer: C
