I'm new to this forum but think it is a great place for new test takers like myself. I just took the GMAT and am very disappointed with my score, especially the verbal. I've been studying hard for the past 2 months and did fairly well on my most recent practice tests. Here are my scores in chronological order:
Kaplan Diagnostic: 610
Kaplan CAT 1: 610
Kaplan CAT 2: 580
Kaplan CAT 3: 620
GMAT Prep 1: 710
GMATPowerprep 1: 690
GMATPowerprep 2: 710
GMAT Prep 2: 740
800Score 1: 720
The Kaplan test scores scared me and made me start studying alot more; but I later found out that these scores are NOT a good indication of how you'll do on the real exam. The GMAT CATs are just like the real exam.
I've always done well on the verbal sections (42-49 on all tests), sometimes better than on math. Unfortunately I got nervous and didn't get any sleep the night before, which really hurt my reading and concentrating abilities! After the math section, I knew I did well and really put myself on cruise control thinking I would get 700+. But later I found all the questions in the verbal section to be pretty difficult. The fact that I had just aced the 800score verbal section didn't help.
So I'm planning to take the exam again in a month. I'm confident I can get at least the same score on math, but I'm aiming for low-mid 40's on the verbal, which should put me in the 700+ range. Does anyone have any advice on what I should study? I found the math to be alot easier than expected, but I guess it's because I had been doing more challenging problems days before the test. I don't want to spend much time studying, but I want to focus on improving the verbal and maintaining the math. Any advice is appreciated!
