What does " it" refer to in E? I think its refers to a phrase. What is being made possible? Answer - The ability to improve the margin of error

i was stuck between D and E E for me tooo because D misses out on the word possible... that changes the meaning of the sentence.
This one is a little more difficult because the sentence is somewhat cumbersome. Answer B is wrong because it made it possible, not impossible. Answers A and C are just too wordy, and answer D is wrong because the finding didn't make improvements in the margin of error exactly, it made it possible to improve the margin of error on the estimates. Answer E is the best choice.
