(1) Sufficient if you know that ∆ + O = 10 you know that

∆.OOO +

because the summ of the digits in each position is 10.

(2) clearly insufficient.
if ∆ = O =2 the sum is 4444
if ∆ = O =3 the sum is 9999

answer A
