I got E, though took a bit longer than I wanted.
A and B can be eliminated because of incorrect comparison.
In C and E, this took me sometime to spot, you cannot compare a star with "Sun's core". Incorrect comparison there too.
ahhh...took nearly 3-4 mins...narrowed down to C,D,E..

in E 'it' clearly refers to sun
though was tempted to select D for parallelism in d second part of d sentence but D is problematic..cuz pronoun 'it' did not have clear referent..may refer to hydrogen or sun

You can cut BCD because the subject becomes "The Hydrogen" which is obv not right.
A is wrong because the clause "it expands into a red giant" is weirdly punctuated.

Its a very good comparision question.
A and E stands out because of it compares star and sun.
Since E uses As which is used to compare clause , its correct.
