Comparing Cabbage and brussels sprouts.
All options with "As" automatically are false, because as cannot be used to compare nouns. Reject B and E
{A} does and it is - refer to "brussels sprouts" which is plural - Hence Incorrect.
{C} Uses correct verb - do and correct plural pronoun - they but in the end - use of "as well as" disrupts the flow of the List, a simple "and" could have been better.

Hi Aristocrat
"and" is used to join two equal entity (in importance)
"as well as" states something like "not only ... but also". Anything which follows "as well as" is considered less important than the one preceding it.

One basic difference is that when "and" is used to connect two singular nouns, the combination is plural. Whereas that is not the case when "as well as" is used.
eg: Frodo AND Sam ARE going to Mordor. Frodo, AS WELL AS Sam, IS going to Mordor.
P:S : I'm watching the movie and hence the reference. _________________

Like X,Y tests. Eliminate B and D as as is followed by a clause. In A , it is incorrect as subject is plural. Between C and E, when is used for time reference. So , E wins.

is when the right usage here?
"Do" is plural and "does" is singular.. So "does" well is shown to be wrong by the very fact that "it" has become "they"
I cannot find any reason for the usage to be wrong.. If you could explain why one might think it to be wrong... I could try my best to explaining the same..

The subject brussels sprouts is plural. Therefore, we need the verb 'do'. Eliminate (A) and (D). 'As well as...' is considered wordy. Eliminate (C). 'As' is used to compare verbs. Since we are comparing nouns, 'cabbage' and 'brussels', we need 'like.' Therefore, answer (E).

A. Like cabbage, brussels sprouts does well if it is shredded and mixed with a tart apple, lemon juice, and brussels sprouts = Plural subject does = singular verb Hence, subject verb agreement error Also, singular pronoun 'it' used to refer to plural subject 'brussels sprouts'
B. As cabbage, brussels sprouts do well if they are shredded and mixed with a tart apple, lemon juice, and As + Noun = denotes function But in the original sentence comparison is intended - 'like'
C. Like cabbage, brussels sprouts do well when they are shredded and mixed with a tart apple, lemon juice, as well as 'and' and 'as well as' do not perform the same function. 'as well as' means "in addition to"
D. As cabbage, brussels sprouts does well if they are shredded and mixed with a tart apple, lemon juice, and brussels sprouts = Plural subject does = singular verb Hence, subject verb agreement error
E. Like cabbage, brussels sprouts do well if they are shredded and mixed with a tart apple, lemon juice, and CORRECT answer choice

does for plural brussels sprouts is incorrect - answer A and D are eliminated as+noun tells the function of smth answer choice C can be eliminated because of "as well as" it is confusing since brussels sprouts indeed are a type of cabbage. answer choice B tells us that brussels sprouts, since they are cabbages, do well, meaning that all cabbages do well. answer choice E compares cabbage with brussels sprouts. picked E.

Like cabbage, brussels sprouts does well if it is shredded and mixed with a tart apple, lemon juice, and a dressing of Dijon mustard and mayonnaise
A. Like cabbage, brussels sprouts does well if it is shredded and mixed with a tart apple, lemon juice, and This answer is incorrect. S-V error as plural subject "brussels sprouts" does not agree with singular verb "does". Referent of "it" is also incorrect.
B. As cabbage, brussels sprouts do well if they are shredded and mixed with a tart apple, lemon juice, and This answer is incorrect. As is incorrectly used to compare nouns where "like" is preferred.
C. Like cabbage, brussels sprouts do well when they are shredded and mixed with a tart apple, lemon juice, as well as This answer is incorrect as well. "when" is used to modify time and is incorrectly placed. Additionally "as well as" is also redundant.
D. As cabbage, brussels sprouts does well if they are shredded and mixed with a tart apple, lemon juice, and This answer is also incorrect. Same mistake as option B. "As" is used incorrectly in place of "like".
E. Like cabbage, brussels sprouts do well if they are shredded and mixed with a tart apple, lemon juice, and This is correct option as it matches the correct S-V pair and does not contain any redundant phrase.
