A?

B: both of A and also of B is not correct. Should be both of A and of B
C, D have a similar problem
E as well is unnecessary.

To me A seems to be the best option, although I don't like any of these.
B. both... and also is improper, although its parallel
C. same as B but not parallal
D. should be not only... but also
E. confused because E looks good too, its parallal concise.

A
"free of X and Y as well" is correct.

B,C,D are straight out. "both X and Y" is correct not "both X and also Y"
Use of "as well" seems wrong in E. "both of X and of Y as well" is not ||.

I agree with your explanation and I think that E is simply more clear than A. is - When I read it for the first time I had doubts what the author ment.

do you have any OE???? source??????

imo, E cannot be correct because of "as well".
1. ................ both of x and of y.
2. ..................... x, and y as well.

so E is not idomatic, violeting the llism.

OE

Answer E is correct because it uses the "both X and Y" idiom correctly. Also, the noun "treatment" (which is characterised by prejudice) is parallel to dependency.

I agree with this but what about "as well" thats hanging in the end.

but A doesnot have "both". "both of x and of y as well" is not idiomatic but "x and y as well" is idiomatic.

My guess is E.

I think A is incorrect because it is incorrect to tack 'as well' to the end of the sentence without first clairfying (with both, or something like also) that more than one item will be mentioned.

B, C & D do not work because it is redundant to use 'both' and 'also' in this way.

E works because it starts with both, and then the 2 clauses match with 'of drug...' and 'of prejudicial...'.

Good explanation mate !

I chose A too ....

... free of X(drug dependency) and Y(other' prejudicial treatment) - here as well to completely the sentence is redundant.

And quite contrary to expectations ... as well in the final choice actually makes more sense and is idiomatic.

I choose C.

1.free of the dependency, but free from the treatment.
2. both ... and.... but also here is incorrect, but also perhaps can be used.

says the OA is A.

I would suggest to forget these ambiguous questions that have multiple OAs.
