1.5% failed.
Of failed cans, 5/6 mislabelled and the rest (1/6) dented.

(1) no. of failed = 450
No. of cans inspected yesterday at the plant were dented = 450*1/6 = 75
SUFFICIENT

(2) 29,550 (98.5%) passed inspection.
That means 450 (1.5%) failed inspection. Hence, no. of cans inspected yesterday at the plant were dented = 450*1/6 = 75.
SUFFICIENT

FINAL ANSWER IS (D)

Of the cans of peaches inspected yesterday at a certain plant, 1.5 percent failed to pass inspection. Of the cans that failed inspection, 5/6 were incorrectly labeled and the rest were dented. If all of the cans that were incorrectly labeled or dented failed inspection, how many of the cans of peaches inspected yesterday at the plant were dented?

(1) 450 of the cans of peaches inspected yesterday at the plant failed to pass inspection.
(2) 29,550 of the cans of peaches inspected yesterday at the plant passed inspection.

our target is to determine the total cans which were dented
#1
450 of the cans of peaches inspected yesterday at the plant failed to pass inspection.
we know that failed cans only cans that were incorrectly labeled or dented failed inspection
and of them failed cans are ; 1.5% of total cans
from given info we can find total of failed cans ;
1.5/100 * x = 450
total cans = 30,000
and dented ; 450/6 ; 75 an incorrect labelled ; 375
sufficient
#2
29,550 of the cans of peaches inspected yesterday at the plant passed inspection.
this 29,550 is 98.5% so first find total cans
.985*x = 29550
x= 30,000
so failed cans = 450 i.e 1.5%
and from here we can determine total dented cans
sufficient

stem: 1.5% failed, 98.5 passed inspection
1)450*0.015 failed inspection. of these 1/6 are dented
sufficient
2)0.985*total cans=29550. from these we can find total cans. Of total cans we can find failed ones, which is 1.5%..then similar to statement 1.
sufficient

we need to find the total number of dented cans.

statement 1:450 of the cans of peaches inspected yesterday at the plant failed to pass inspection.

1/6 of 450= dented cans = approx 75

statement 1 sufficient

Statement 2: 29,550 of the cans of peaches inspected yesterday at the plant passed inspection.

98.5% of X= 29550 then 1.5% of X= ?

After finding the value of 1.5% we can find 1/6 of that value and hence statement 2 is also sufficient
