hahaha ... dont loose hope is the moral of the story :)
having said this, i have not even started off my application process and your statement is giving me jitters :)

I tried filling up the "employment" section of the application form today.....there is space for FIVE achievements....for God's sake....if I were a corporate superman I wouldnt be needing an MBA would I? :/

Haha ... last time around there was a space of 3 :)
So i think we would have to do a lot of thinking this time.

You can write things which you achieved as a team, for example ... blah blah project was rated the best at my company or my team was rated the best team or probably something about your appraisal ... where you were rated best or among the best :)

Or probably you can cite en accolade for your work forma very senior person or your client ...

Its not about juts the major achievements.
its all about recounting those small things and i am sure you will be able to list down 10 15 achievements

Hope that helps :)
If you have any other queries, please share them and we will try to answer them ...

Attended the info session today at Hyderabad... Not a lot more information than what we can dig up on the website, but it was nice meeting the alumns who were really patient answering everyone's questions... and of course the infrastructure is good.. Lots of spacious buildings..

Since I am new to this thread a little about me -

I belong to the most competitive group for BSchools - the Indian IT male.. :P.. Got a 710 on GMAT (not so satisfactory - but no plans to retake).. Decent acads - college topper, a couple of scholarships.. From a locally renowned college, not the IIT's or NIT's though :(
Close to 7 yrs Work Ex.. Right now leading a team of 6.. Decent growth at work.. Worked abroad in US and UK for almost 2 yrs.. Lots of recognition at work..
Fair to Decent Extra curriculars.. Organized a lot of events at college and work, innovation clubs, technical training @ work. Weak at sports though.. Volunteering at an organization (Not exactly an NGO).. Working with a friend on a startup.

Who spear-headed the session, Mr. Menon or Mr. Srinath?

Anyhow, great profile and don’t worry, the 7 years of experience will help you carve out a way among the competitive Indian IT pool. Just don’t take it for granted and write your essays well. Two points about essays:

1) Achievements: I am sure you will have a lot of achievements to write about which is why it is essential that you pen them all down first before you jump down the essays bandwagon.

2) Goals: You are employed in IT industry, you have been volunteering, working on a startup etc. Great but all these should be written in a coherent manner so that it all makes a logical sense. Goals percolate form your previous background which should be a part of your essays. Needless to say why MBA? and more so why now? would be more crucial for your cause owing to your higher work experience.

Happy app writing!

It will be biased to just mention one fact that is weak rupee. IIM pgppx is also declining in rank but not as ISB. It is on a full swing.

may be pundits of ranking can better explain the decline.

Got it sir :)
But still ISB is the place to be ... trust me ..
I have been there a number of times due to various reasons and have interacted with the students also.
I don't mind the downfall in the rankings :) and i think you shouldn't mind either :)

BTW what are you up to these days as you have already finished your application process.
Have you submitted the application?

Hey Ankur
I am getting my essays reviewed by a consultant......I want place my best foot...may be by july end i will submit the application

Promotions and accolades are good stuff, but then I cannot see specific mention of any leadership example description. Anywhere where you lead a team, motivated a team, created a team etc. Make sure such examples form a descriptive part of your essays and not the hollow one-liners.

It's a strong positive that you went till the interview stage because it means the Admissions Committee saw a spark in you. But it would be mistaken to deduct that something during the interview let you down. It's possible that your essays were good but were not strong enough, that they took you to interview stage but didn't have enough meat to make sure your interview went well. Perhaps your interview was less on your strengths and more on your weaknesses or on getting to explain to ISB adcom.

A far as the interview last year is concerned, i sucked big time over there and i am pretty sure that my essays had no role to play in the ding :)
