FROM Broad (Michigan State) MBA Blog: MBA’s Eat Pie for Charity |
This March 14, you can donate to charity by eating pie. And not just any pie, but pie from the celebrated Grand Traverse Pie Company. Celebrated as Pi Day every year, 3/14 has become a day to celebrate the mathematical ratio of pi. Grand Traverse Pie Company honors the day every year with a variety of pi(e)-themed events. This year, the Michigan-based company has paired with students in the Broad MBA program to bring pie slices to the Broad College of Business for sale. Proceeds will be donated to the Greater Lansing Food Bank, and since the pies are being donated by Grand Traverse Pie Co., it’s all proceeds. “We are thrilled to be celebrating Pi (Day) and Pie with the MSU students and faculty this year. Pi Day is special as it ties in education while creating pie memories with a bonus of helping others in the process. That’s the power of pie and pi together,” said Mike Busley, co-founder of the Grand Traverse Pie Company. The goal of the event is to sell enough pies in order to donate $1,000 to the food bank, with Grand Traverse Pie Company matching the final donation. “The Greater Lansing Food Bank does a tremendous job in getting help to those within our community who are in need,” said MBA student Aaron French, organizer of the Pi Day event and vice president of community outreach for the Graduate Supply Chain Management Association. “A central component to the business education here at Broad is the focus on community betterment, so we do this type of fundraising at the business college because it is who we are as Spartans and who we are as Broad MBA students,” said French. The pie slices will be on sale from noon to 1 p.m. on the first floor of the North Business College Complex near room N100 every day March 14 through March 18. Members of the college leadership team have signed up to help dish out the pie slices at the event, including the college’s dean. Schedule for Leadership Team at Pie Table:
