Hi guys
For those who already did the video interviews. Is there a balance between personal/professional questions or is it completely random?
Thanks!
I have an excellent blog on my website re: INSEAD video q's and my assistant updates any and all new questions that candidates bring to me on that blog. So there you can see the nature of the questions they there, however I cannot say if the actual MIX of questions given to the candidates is to deliberately split in some type of % personal % professional...would love for you guys to help answer this - in terms of questions that could be categorized as Personal vs. Professional that INSEAD lobbed at you.

GMAT Club will not allow me to gather personal data from you guys so I cannot be involved with the https://gmatclub.com/chat group but if you can organize that independently have at it of course.

Dear Farrell and future potential classmates,

I have a problem with the word limit of the third job essay. I have 8 years of experience and worked in 7 different positions in 2 companies. Also, I have 2 radical change in my career path, firstly from engineering to HR, and then from HR to finance.
So if I want to explain my career path with rational behind my choices and mention my learning from each job, I cannot summarize it less than 600 words, which I think is far beyond the expected word limit. What is a reasonable word limit for this question and what is your advice for me? Do you suggest me to cut some of the positions I have had in this essay?

Thanks in advance

You're not allowed to submit if it's longer than the word limit. You can do it; just summarize, and yes, you can cut some of the positions in order to give more space to the important ones. Do you really need to describe all seven positions in detail, or is it sufficient to highlight one or two while noting you moved up within the company? The change from engineering to HR to finance is certainly worth explaining, especially in terms of motivations.
merlion this is good advice however so the job essays there is no enforced word limit, unless things have changed? Just this year they've become extremely strict about word limit for motivation issues however for the job essays there is no specific limit.

I would say that you was should strive to get it under 400 words and there is definitely a way for you to summarize things, think about your overall trajectory and the industry changes.... and then discuss the job shifts inside of that after giving them the context.

Make this more targeted than comprehensive. Idea is to give them more feelings for why you made these choices which is beyond your resume, don't repeat stuff that's on your resume for the sake of being complete or something.

It's okay to be brief about certain jobs really just think about what YOU would want to read from somebody on this question? Answer the question but don't give them every tiny detail, overriding objective here is to get to know you and so continue in pursuit of that aim.

They want to better understand how your mind works how you make decisions...that kind of thing. They don't actually care what your career trajectory/ job content has been it's about using the information about that to **discern** if you have the qualities that they are seeking, teamwork, problem solving skills, strategic thinking, etc. They want for you to connect the dots to create a narrative on where you come from and where you're going.

Always important to really think about what they are trying to get out of each question before writing it.

I experienced a similar problem when I was submitting for Round 1. I switched across 5 positions and 2 companies (2 different industries) - from Engineering to Supply Chain and from Consumer goods to Healthcare. Summarize as much as possible and speak about your motivations (1-2 lines), what you learned during it and which led to motivation for second switch (2-3 lines). Rinse and Repeat. That is the only way to cut it down. I put it in fewer than 500 words. It is possible. Just needs a fair bit of revision.

Sorry to hear that. Was that today? (Just wondering whether dings have just started coming out or whether they started last week).

Hi,

Is it true that for INSEAD the last two days are mostly for rejections?
I still have not received reply for R1 application.

Thanks
