The direct approach would be like this:
x/4 = x/8 + 2
x/4 - x/8 = 2
(8x-4x) = 64
4x = 64
x=16

(C) is the answer.

If x/4 is 2 more than x/8, then x =

(A) 4
(B) 8
(C) 16
(D) 32
(E) 64

Used Option Choices:
Option 1, 2 can't be the answer as X/8 gives half and one.
Option 3 x/4 is 2 more than x/8== 16/4 = 16/8 +2 ==>>> 4= 4
option 4 32/4= 32/8+2 incorrect
Option 5 64/4 = 64/8 +2 incorrect.

Thanks,
AB

Given: \(\frac{x}{4}-\frac{x}{8}=2\). At this point we can either solve for x or plug-in the options. Option C works.

Answer: C.

Let y = x/8.

So, 2y = x/4

Rewriting the equation (x/4) - (x/8) = 2 as 2y - y = 2, we get y = 2
Or, x/8 = 2
Or, x = 16

Hence, answer is option (C).

==> x/8=2

x=16

Re: If x/4 is 2 more than x/8, then x = [#permalink]
This is an Algebra, Linear Equations problem.
Such kind of sums need extra attention while setting up the equations and most of the options are trap answers from wrong set-up.
he correct set-up is : x/4 + 2 + x/8.
x/4-x/8=2
Here, if you realize that x/8 is actually half of x/4 then u directly have,
x/8=2
and therefore, x=16.

One of the best way of solving such questions is checking the options....

(C) \(x = 16\)

\(\frac{x}{8} = 2\)
\(\frac{x}{4} = 4\)

Where \(\frac{x}{4}\) is 2 more than \(\frac{x}{8}\)...

Thus, correct answer must be (C) 16

The direct approach would be like this:
x/4 = x/8 + 2

x/4 = (x + 16)/8

x/1 = (x+ 16)/2

2x-x = 16

x=16

If x/4 is 2 more than x/8, then x =

(A) 4
(B) 8
(C) 16
(D) 32
(E) 64

Solution :

Easy approach for these questions where denominators are multiples of one another

x/4 can be rewritten as 2x/8. This helps to reduce the time for solving

So equuation can be changed as 2x/8 = 2 + x/8
So x/8 = 2 or x = 16

Answer : C

Please give +1 Kudos if you like this approach

\(\frac{x}{4}\) is 2 more than \(\frac{x}{8}\) means the difference between x/4 and x/8 Is 2

=> \(\frac{x}{4} - \frac{x}{8} = 2\)

=> (2x - x)= 2 * 8

=> x = 16

\(\frac{x}{8}\)+2=\(\frac{x}{4}\);
\(\frac{x+16}{8}\)=\(\frac{x}{4}\);
x+16=\(\frac{x}{4}\)*8;
x+16=x*2;
2x-x=16;
x=16; Therefore, the OA is C
