Any idea why some rankings have Yale as low as 20-25?? The admissions standards, diversity, Ivy prestige, etc should equal a top ten ranking regardless of the source, right?
I only know of one business school ranking that places Yale outside of the top 15 (of all business schools worldwide) and it is the infamous BusinessWeek rankings, which also happen to rank Booth over HBS / Wharton and Stanford at #5. Someone I know spoke to our new Dean Snyder about this and the new administration is making a powerful effort in working with BW to have it better reflect reality. To some extent, the rankings don't really matter but on the other hand, I think it is a positive that we are addressing this issue to eliminate any doubts as to our quality.
From what I know, the metrics BW uses are flawed and place an enormous emphasis on student evaluations. Despite the fact that we had the highest rate of alumni donations (either last year or the year before that) and that alumni support is extremely strong (based on my own experiences of reaching out), we have a very unique student body. Student evaluations responded with overall sentiments of "good" to "very good." Apparently, virtually all the other schools had feedback ranging from "Very very good" to "Amazing." I think this is attributed more towards our students' modesty and honesty, rather than a reflection of actual school quality...
Yale has always prided itself in a culture of integrity, which is intertwined with the strong social sector commitment. As a result, there is a real value in leadership and people here are extremely honest and don't play to game the system as well. That is one setback with our mentality here. I think as the students here respond more in-line with the kids at other business schools for these student surveys, I think you will see our rankings rise a lot in the next few years... Some unofficial sources say that we had close to a 100% internship placement rate for the most recent class... I personally don't know a single person who didn't land a summer internship offer of his/her choice...
