Analytical Writing Assessment Question
The following appeared in a memorandum from the business department of the Apogee Company:

"When the Apogee Company had all its operations in one location, it was more profitable than it is today. Therefore, the Apogee Company should close down its field offices and conduct all its operations from a single location. Such centralization would improve profitability by cutting costs and helping the company maintain better supervision of all employees."

Discuss how logically persuasive you find the above argument. In presenting your point of view, analyze the sort of reasoning used and supporting evidence. In addition, state what further evidence, if any, would make the argument more sound and convincing or would make you better able to evaluate its conclusion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As stated in the above argument regarding the Apogee Company that the profit today as compared to what was the condition before the decentralization is quite low. There may be many other reasons and factors responsible for the low profit but the location change is headed the responsibility which rises many question about its validity.
Firstly, as stated the Apogee Company is not considering the other factors which are to be taken care of whenever a Company starts offices in a different location. Proper management is very important if you want to live up to the standard of the company and providing good and proper delivery of work which isnt being referred here.
Secondly, closing down its field offices and conducting all its operations from a single location is very harmful if the Company has growth as an objective in the near future. Expanding the territory into many field offices has always added advantage towards the future any company warranties. Shutting down the field offices and operations may lower the cost but is very harmful if the annual profit is concerned.
Thirdly, The argument also states about the benefits of the operations and work getting done in a single location will maintain a better supervision. But a company having a likely minded employee strength is tend to have low efficiency and low profit with respect to a company which has employee from various regions of the world and tackling problems with their own different analytical abilities. Clearly, having employees stagnated to a particular workplace and likely minded people will hamper their performance and the company's profit directly depends on it.

There are other factors which also come in for the negative impact of the single location of any organization. It reducing the different employee cultural strength of the company which plays a vital role in employee engagement activities and hence is very beneficial for good team bonding and performance which eventually links to the Company's good performance and profits. Also, there may be cases in which an execellently performing employee has to leave the location due to some personal reasons and needs to shift in the country A but due to the single location workplace condition he has to leave the company and company looses one of the efficient workers just because of the location restrictions.

There are many other ways through which the profits can be maintained or even increased by keeping the field offices and other offices at diiferent offices functional. Firstly, the company should form a team of fairly experience people in different locations to manage all the resource locations and facilities. Secondly, many employee engagement activities should be done so as to maintain a good bond between different location office employees. Lastly, every new change takes time to commence it. There isnt much data given regarding how many years this plan has been working. The company should give these changes to rope in well and then it will surely give profits.
