Dear ****,
You ask a lot of good questions my friend, and seem very thoughtful about your career and life. Right now you have a good start to your career, and in the coming years you may find that your mind will change several times about what you think you want to do, but that's great! Just go with it.
1) Is there something I could do, or read, to understand and gain clarity if an MBA is the right choice for me?
- Lots of stuff. Start with the web. See what people write about their experiences. Best would be to SPEAK with people you know who have done an MBA. You won't find an answer immediately, but over time, and with your work and experience it will become a lot clearer.
2) If it is, what sort of work should I be doing to strengthen my chances of getting into a top program after a work-ex of 2-4 years?
- At this point the two most important things are 1) Career success and 2) Leadership. Basically you want to do better than everyone else, get promoted faster, and take on more responsibility. Beyond that, try not to be monomaniacal about work. Meaning, schools DO love to see success, but they also like well-rounded candidates. Finally, since you are starting early, make sure you have at least one good strong volunteer position during these years, preferably with an internationally known charity/organization.
3) What sort of work opportunities are available at this stage ? (What sort of work-ex do the general applicants have?)
You probably know this better than me. I don't really know the conditions of the Indian job market at this time.
4) I am confused and unable to draw a timeline to an MBA, and after. I have attached my resume, maybe you could have a look and give me some suggestions as to how I should go about it.
This is only natural. I mean nobody applies to an MBA without at LEAST 2-3 years experience in the bag. So give yourself the time to figure it out. IT will depend a lot on what you do in the meanwhile too, so don;t worry about this tooo much at this point.
One more thing you can do, is that since you have already taken the GMAT, you can see if you want to retake within the next year and get the GMAT over and done with. Although your score is respectable, it's not high enough for top programs yet, and if you believe you can do better, it would be worth your while, and since you have already studied, you might as well carry on with it now, so you can concentrate on other things later.
Hope this helps!
