In the parallelogram shown, what is the value of a?

Solution



Given:
• In a parallelogram a, b, and c are the angles as indicated above

To find:
• The value of angle a

Analysing Statement 1
• As per the information given in Statement 1, a = 3b
• We know, the sum of any two consecutive angles of a parallelogram is 180 degrees
    o Therefore, a + 3b = 180
    o As a = 3b, we can replace the value of b in the given equation to find the value of a
• Hence, statement 1 is sufficient to answer the question

Analysing Statement 2
• As per the information given in Statement 2, a + c = 270
    o In a parallelogram the opposite angles are equal. Hence we can say that a = c
    o Thus 2a = 270 and a = 135
• Hence, statement 2 is also sufficient to answer the question
Hence, the correct answer is option D.

Given:

Ans. should be D as statement 2 is also sufficient to get the value of a.
Where am I wrong?
