QC42 : GMAT PREP
Please explain your ans
with explanation this time.
The question asks whether n is a three digit number less than 550?
Consider statement 1: the product of the digits of n is 30.
Factorize 30: 1,2,3,5,6,10,15,30
From the list above, form 3 digit numbers whose product is 30.
Ex: 156, 235, 325, 523, 532 --- all below 550,
except 651. ---- therefore statement 1 is insufficient.
Statement 2 says that the sum of the digits of n adds upto 30.
From the list above, the only number whose digits can add upto 30 are:
235, 325, 523 - all are below 550,
but
910, 631 - also add upto 30 ---- statement 2 is insufficient.
Consider stat 1 and stat 2 together,
we know that product of digits should be 30 and sum of digits should be 10.
Therefore, the only numbers like that are 235, 325, 523, all below 550.
My answer is C.
Hope this helps.
