Asked: Is the perimeter of parallelogram ABCD greater than 10?
(1) Sides AB and BC are in a ratio greater than 7 to 1
Let the sides AB & BC be 7x & x respectively
Perimeter of parallelogram ABCD = 2 (7x+x) = 16x
Is 16x > 10; x>10/16
Since x is unknown
NOT SUFFICIENT
(2) The distance from A to C is 5
Let one side be 5 sin x & other side be 5 cos x
Perimeter = 2 (5 sin x + 5 cos x) = 10 (sin x + cos x) > 10 since sin x + cos x > 1 when x is an acute angle
SUFFICIENT

or x+y>5
perimeter = 2(x+y) >2*5 or 10
