Hi theleopride,

Based on our discussions from back in April, it sounds as though you are facing many of the same issues that you were facing before. In simple terms, "your way" of approaching your studies (which has involved working through lots and lots of practice questions) has potentially gotten you 'stuck' at this particular scoring level. Based on your Score Goal, you will have to make significant changes to how you train for this Exam - and you will almost certainly need the structure of a GMAT Course of some type (either Guided Self-Study or instructor-led).

1) How many hours are you currently studying each week?
2) Have you expanded the list of Schools that you are thinking about applying to, or are you focused on the ones we discussed in April?

Hi theleopride,

I’m glad you reached out, and I’m happy to help. Looking at your current study routine, you need to ensure that you avoid the approach of what I call “practice first and figure the rest out later” -- in other words, doing practice problems before understanding the concepts on which those problems are based, and thus trying to learn solely from reading solutions to problems. Trying to learn in such a way will leave gaps in your knowledge and impede progress. Thus, if you find that you are plateauing, perhaps try a more linear and structured approach to your prep. In fact, if you’d like more detailed advice on how to improve your GMAT quant and verbal skills, feel free to reach out. Also, you may find it helpful to read the following article:

Hi Rich,

Please find my comments below :

1) How many hours are you currently studying each week? : I am studying for 30 hours a week.
2) Yes, I did expand, and I have consulted an admission consultant too. Based on my profile , even the 22-25 ranked schools need a score of atleast a 710.

Please suggest.

Just to add : My approach now is as follows :

1. Learn a topic.
2. Solve basic problems from Princeton's portal.
2. Solve problems related to the above topic from official guide (Since it is the only reliable source).

What is wrong with this approach?

Hi theleopride,

The plan that you describe sounds remarkably similar to how you studied before (which we discussed via PM back in April). If you're ultimately going to work through lots of practice questions using the same general methods/approaches that you used before, then it's likely that you will continue to score at the same general level. There's nothing inherently "wrong" with what you are planning, but with your Score Goal, some significant changes in your approach to the overall Exam will be required - and it does not sound as though your plan involves any of that.

Thanks , Rich. Could you please suggest me in what way should I modify my study method?
