Area of Triangle CEF = Area of sq ABCD - Area of Triangle AEF - Area of Triangle EDC - Area of Triangle FDC
= 8 x 8 - 1/2 x 4 x 4 - 1/2 x 4 x 8 - 1/2 x 4 x 8
= 64 - 8 - 16 - 16
= 24

Area of shaded triangle = area of square - area of the other three triangles =64-(8+16+16)
