Dear Community,
I gave my first attempt at GMAT a few days ago and I could get only 540 ( Q42, V23). I did receive a lot of surprises on the day of exams such as I reached the wrong test center, my mask got torn and, having only one mask. I somehow managed to put back my mask and gave the exam. This issue took away my precious 4 mins from the verbal section, forcing me to skip initial RC passages to make up for this time in the beginning. I was not in a really good mental condition in the verbal part considering this incident. However, my quant score has really put me in wonder. I was giving answers flawlessly in the quant without facing actually any kind of difficulty. I was expecting at least Q48 on my attempt.
I have put around 6 months of my time and efforts into this and receiving this kind of score is really disheartening. I also subscribed to various test-prep software and did give around 10 mocks including 5 official tests.
I used to get around 600 in my official mocks and was able to reach the level of Q49 and V30 in some tests. ( not together in one test !!)
Now is time to introspect my current level of preparation and I am asking for the help on following points. I really look forward to suggestions from this great community on how do I give my next exam getting a marvelous 700.
1) How do I increase my ability to read faster and comprehending meaning? - I have very poor scores in SC and RC. CR score looks good but as i understand that is mainly due to lower difficulty questions asked.
2) Suggest me some reading materials to increase my reading speed
3) Can anybody tell me what could have really gone wrong in my quant attempt that I could get my lifetime low in the quant section.

For Quant, checking whether there are certain topics you find slippery may be helpful. If, for example, you were thrown some "easy" questions wrong on topics you find hard, the algorithm may not have put you on a higher scoring path. Take this with a grain of salt, though, since no one absolutely knows how the algorithm works.
For Verbal, it's likely the drop was in large part due to "This issue took away my precious 4 mins from the verbal section, forcing me to skip initial RC passages to make up for this time in the beginning. I was not in a really good mental condition in the verbal part considering this incident." . I usually teach students a reading method to absorb passages, so perhaps exploring different solving approaches may be something to consider.
