The first line is going to cut the original triangle into a triangle and a quadrilateral. The second line is going to cut the triangle into two parts and the quadrilateral into two parts. For our third line, we have two choices.
Red line: we could intersect the second line first, thereby cutting the triangle into four parts and the equilateral into three parts.
Or green line: We could intersect the first line first, thereby cutting the triangle into three parts and the equilateral into four parts.
Either way, we now have seven regions.
Answer choice D.
