Rephrase the question:
Note how the triangles have the same base. Then we can translate the ratio of areas into the ratio of heights. Hence we are asking what is the height of \(\triangle ABD\) over the height of \(\triangle ACD\).
Statement 1 Alone:
Whether B or C is higher is still unclear, so insufficient.
Statement 2 Alone:
Now we know that both triangles must have the same height. Sufficient.
