The test-taker scored V32 with only 7 missed questions because the difficulty level of the questions the test-taker was seeing was rather low.

Basically, what happened was that the test-taker got the medium questions at the beginning of the verbal section incorrect, driving the level of difficulty below medium. Then the test-taker got the easy questions correct, but any time the test-taker saw a medium question, he or she missed it. So, the difficulty remained low throughout the section.

The reasons why the test-taker would miss all medium questions would be that the test-taker is (1) using simple methods of choosing answers that work only for easy questions and not for medium and hard questions and (2) that the test-taker is not paying close attention to detail and thus falling for trap choices.

For some ideas regarding what that test-taker could do to increase the difficulty level of the questions he or she gets correct, see this video.

Hi, Need help with analysis of V32 (ESR attached).

The student had just 7 errors, still scored a V32.

TIA

Hi Dillesh4096

It depends a lot on the difficulty level of questions answered. For scoring high, you need to get the easy medium questions right as GMAT test is adaptive in nature. You can afford making mistakes only in the latter half of the Section, not in the beginning. You have to make the GMAT algorithm serve you difficult questions and get them right. For that, being conceptually clear on all topics is really vital. Not only this, you have to be good with application of concepts because GMAT is a test of application of concepts.

As evident from the ESR, the questions incorrect questions belong to the medium-hard category. That must have hurt your scores.

Here's a video where we have analysed ESRs of two students (who scored V30 and V41 with 8 and 7 mistakes respectively) to help you understand how the algorithm works:

This should give you a better perspective.

Feel free to reach out on DM for a detailed ESR analysis and help with the Verbal score improvement strategies. Would be happy to help!

How much were you scoring in official mocks? The exam result could be just an anomaly.
