Is it possible to improve my verbal score to V40 within a month of prep?

Person below went from a V31 to a V40 in about 30 days, similar to the time frame you're looking at. Although they took a bit of tutoring, they mention a variety of free resources/quick tips you can check out. Based on your ESR, working on time management may be a bit helpful. For RC, becoming familiar with how INFERENCE questions work could be useful as well.

You come across as exceptional in CR. 87th percentile, with only 1:27 minutes per question! RC and SC are coming across as weak. What were your mock scores?

I guess CR happens to be my strength. I thought I performed well on RC and SC as well, clearly not.

I've exhausted all my mocks and I was averaging from 680-720 in my mocks with a verbal score of V36-40.

Any inputs on what do I do for RC and SC?

Thanks!

Hi Akash.

You can for sure achieve your target score. You just need to strengthen a few weaker areas of Quant, such as Geometry and Properties of Numbers, and prepare more effectively for Verbal.

You ESR indicates that, in particular, you need to work on RC, and you need to work on SC as well.

To develop a better understanding of how to increase your Verbal score, see the following post and video.

How to Score High on GMAT Verbal

Thanks Marty! I will go through the article and the video.

Any specific tips on how to improve RC? Do you think it's a good idea for me to tackle LSAT passages? I have exhausted all the official material and I'm not how/ where to focus my time and effort.

Though LSAT passages are a little different from GMAT passages, they are good for practicing for the GMAT.

To improve in RC, you can use the tips in the video I shared, learn some strategies, and practice in the way discussed in the post I shared.

Hi Akash,

The data in your ESR shows a number of similarities to the one from your 1st attempt (back in February) - so it's likely that you developed some 'bad habits' during your earlier studies that have gotten you stuck in the mid-600s. To get to the point that you can consistently score 700+, you will have to make some fundamental changes to how you 'see' (and respond to) the overall GMAT - otherwise, you'll likely score right around a 650 on your next attempt.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied in total? Over the last 3 months, how many hours did you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used over the course of ALL of your studies? What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi Rich,
Thank you for responding. I'd appreciate if you could help me understand where exactly I'm going wrong and how do I ensure this doesn't happen again.

1. I've studied for an average of 4 hours per day, including the weekends over the last 2 months. I had a gap of a month of so after my attempt in Feb because of work.
2. I've exclusively relied on OG material for Verbal. For Quant, I used the OG Qs + GMAT Club tests. For CATs, I already exhausted all my GMAT Prep Mocks, so I used GMATClub tests for Quant during my prep, scoring an average of Q46/ Q47 over the 15 or so tests I've taken.
3. Well I didn't take a full CAT but I did take a bunch of quizzes using GMATClub Forum Quiz with varying difficulties. I retook the GMAT Prep 1 and 2 and I scored 770 but there were a bunch of repeat questions, so fair to say it's not reflective of my abilities.
4. Well I was planning to apply for Round 1, seeing as I'll be retaking my test in Sep, I'll be happy to get this sorted out in time for Round 2. I'm planning to apply to European schools (INSEAD, IESE, Bocconi, IMD, IE etc.,)

Hi Akash,

Since you have some specific Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement (and the more time that you have to implement those suggestions, the better). There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

I've also sent you a PM with an analysis of your ESR and some notes and additional questions.
