Some students planned a picnic and decided to divide cost of food equally among them. The cost for the food was Rs 480 . As some of the students failed to join the picnic, the cost of the food for each member increased by Rs 10. Find how many students went for the picnic.

Given - Some students planned a picnic and decided to divide cost of food equally among them. The cost for the food was Rs 480 . As some of the students failed to join the picnic, the cost of the food for each member increased by Rs 10.
Assuming x as some students, Therefore initial cost of food per student = 480/x,
Assuming n number of students who failed to join the picnic, Therefore the new cost of food per student will be 480/(x-n).
But this is equal to 480/x + 10
Therefore final equation,
480/(x-n) = (480/x) +10 ----(Eq1)
From this if we able to get the value of x we can calculate the value of n and vice versa.
To find - Find how many students went for the picnic. That is x-n lets check condition.
1st - The students who failed to join the picnic were 8 in number.
Therefore n=8 put in equation 1 we can get value of x and from there we can calculate x-n. Hence sufficient.
2nd - Initially 24 students planned the picnic.
Therefore x=24 put in equation 1 we can get value of n and from there we can calculate x-n. Hence sufficient.
