The problem states that fullerenes are found in nature, in the fissures of the mineral shungite. It also states that the laboratory synthesis requires distinct conditions of temperature and pressure. So this can help us understand the earth's state when they are naturally formed. So the assumption here is that both laboratory formed and naturally occuring fullerenes have the same structure and so we can simulate the conditions. Statement (D) weakens this argument that the previously formed natural fullereness are arranged in unknown structure. This means that reproduction of the same conditions in the lab is not possible.
