Hello, I would like to know where I stand regarding my profile because it's untraditional.
Background:
Nationality: Canadian
Ethnicity: Chinese
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Current Location: Japan
Language: English (Native), Mandarin(Native), French(Conversational), Japanese (Conversational)
GMAT Focus Score: 675
MBA target schools: UCLA, USC, NYU, University of Toronto, my Canadian Alma mater (safety)
Undergraduate uni is sometimes in the top 10 of Canadian unis
Honor's Bachelors of Science Major in Chemistry and Minor in Business
Cum Laude
GPA: 3.3/4.0
No College extra circulars
Certificates:
TESOL for teaching English
JLPT N5(Japanese language proficiency)
Work Experience: Total less than two years (this is the tricky part)
Currently in Tokyo, Japan, studying in a Japanese Language School and learning Japanese.
Work Experience:
1)English Teacher in Japan (8 months)
2)Chemical Composition Analyst (analyzed inorganic samples and told clients what the composition is) in Canada (10 months)
My family runs a Chinese medicine clinic. It's a sole proprietorship, so in the eyes of the government, I'm not an employee, and I have never worked there. But I help out, so I could say I have been working there since I was 18, which would be eight years of work experience. I don't know how some universities would view this because MBAs require x number of work experience. If they did check on me, it'd be like I was lying because there's no proof.
Internships:
1)Chemistry Researcher (did some research somewhat related to global warming)
2)Lab technician at university (helping out graduate students and professors wherever I could)
Post MBA Goals:
Short Term Goal: consulting
I want to get some information about my work experience. Do they check, or do they not check my work history? If they do, what program should I apply for, the MBA or that specialization program with no work experience requirements?
Also, what are my chances of getting into the school I listed? I'm open to applying to other schools as well.
What are some weaknesses in my application? I'd love to address them in the "Do you have anything else to tell us" section for the applicant.
