Ross has 40 shirts, 3/4 of the shirts are green and 1/10 is without buttons. Therefore Ross has between ___ and ___ shirts with buttons that are not green.

A. 6 ; 10.
B. 4 ; 25.
C. 4 ; 10.
D. 5 ; 25.
E. 3 ; 10.

Total shirts = 40
Green shirts = 3/4*40 = 30, Non green shirts = 10
Shirts without button = 1/10*40 = 4, shirts with button = 36

Required: Range of shirts with buttons that are not green.
Maximum non green shirts with buttons = number of non green shirts = 10
Minimum non green shirts with buttons (All without button shirts are non green) = Non green shirts - shirts without button = 10 - 4 = 6

Hence the range would be (6, 10)

Correct Option: A

total shirts Ross has 40
green shirts = 40*3/4=30
shirts without buttons = 40*1/10=4

shirts that are not green = 10

1. If all the shirts without buttons are not green = 4 , the max he can have is 10 -4 = 6 shirts with buttons that are not green
2.If all the shirts without buttons are green , he can then have 10 shirts with buttons that are not green

therefore between 6 and 10

Case 1: Total 40 shirts - 30 green shirts - 4 without buttons = 6 non green & with button shirts
Case 2: Total 40 shirts - 30 green shirts (including 4 without buttons) = 10 non green & with button shirts.

Just restarted my GMAT life. Desperate for KUDOs :-)
