Then the paucity of resources -> Low population, is it make sense?

Hi Mike

There is a subtle difference. Option (A) states that the viruses restrict population to the level supported by the resources. Your line of reasoning is largely ok except for the last step - the paucity of resources would reduce population to the level supported by the resources. We do not know whether this level is more or less than the level at the beginning of the experiment, or at the end. Therefore, we cannot state this to explain either of the levels of the population, as they are completed different quantities (at least, based on the information given in the passage).

ankitapugalia, would you mind sharing why you think option E resolves the paradox? If anything, option E would probably increase the paradox a little. If planktons do catch these viruses, I'd expect the population to increase once these viruses have been removed.
