30=s1 x t1 ; 30=2s1 x t2; So, s1 x t1 = 2s1 x t2 or t1 = 2t2 and t1 + t2 = 6

so we get s1 = 15/2 & s2 = 2 x 15/2 = 15.

The distance from Steve's house to work is 30 Km. On the way back Steve drives twice as fast as he did on the way to work. Altogether, Steve is spending 6 hours a day on the roads. What is Steve's speed on the way back from work?

A. 5.
B. 10.
C. 14.
D. 15.
E. 20.

We can let the distance each direction = 30, the rate to work = r, and the rate from work = 2r.

Thus, the time going to work = 30/r and the time coming home from work = 30/2r = 15/r. Thus:

30/r + 15r = 6

45/r = 6

45 = 6r

7.5 = r

Thus, the speed on the way back from work is 2 x 7.5 = 15 mph.

Answer: D
