Numbers between 1 - 100 whose square ends in 1 is 20 - 1,9,11,19......91,99 -> 20 -> %of such numbers out of 100 = 20/100 -> 20%

Such numbers between 1 - 200 - 40 -> % -> 40/200 -> 20%

Hence Option A

I used the same approach, and also concluded that the answer is A. But, the OA listed is E.

Any thoughts?

You never need Calculator for GMAT Quant questions

Quote:
The percentage of integers from 1 through 100 whose squares end with the digit 1 is x% and the percentage of integers from 1 through 200 whose squares end with 1 is y%. Which one of the following is true?

A) x=y
B) X = 2y
C) X = 4y
D) y = 2x
E) y = 4x

integers from 1 through 100 whose squares end with the digit 1

The numbers whose square end with digit 1 must have unit digit {1 and 9}

Numbers of such type are {1, 9, 11, 19, 21, 29...} i.e. 2 numbers in every 10 numbers = 20 Numbers = 20%

i.e. x = 20%
