The phenomena of public education is another example of the workings of democracy.


A. The phenomena of public education is another example of the workings of democracy. Incorrect - "Phenomena" is a plural noun

B. The phenomena of public education is yet another example of democracy at work. Incorrect - "Phenomena" is a plural noun

C. The phenomenon of public education is another example of how the workings of democracy work. Incorrect - corrects SV agreement error but "workings of democracy work" sounds wordy - I am not sure about the grammar in this

D. The phenomenon of public education is another example of democracy at work. Correct - Corrects SV agreement

E. Public education, a phenomena, is another working example of democracy Incorrect - "a phenomena" should be "a phenomenon" and "working example of democracy" changes the meaning

Subject-Verb agreement error. "phenomena" is plural for "phenomenon" and requires plural verb "are" INCORRECT

B. The phenomena of public education is yet another example of democracy at work.

Subject-Verb agreement error. "phenomena" is plural for "phenomenon" and requires plural verb "are" INCORRECT

C. The phenomenon of public education is another example of how the workings of democracy work.

"workings" and "work" are repetitive INCORRECT

D. The phenomenon of public education is another example of democracy at work.

E. Public education, a phenomena, is another working example of democracy

"phenomena" implies plural and "is" is singular. INCORRECT

Official Explanation

In this example, there is a lack of agreement in number between the subject (phenomena) and the verb (is) because phenomena is plural (phenomenon is singular).

The same error eliminates choices (B) and (E) (“a phenomena” is incorrect).

Choice (C) is redundant (“the workings of democracy work”). The general rule is that a singular subject requires a singular verb, and a plural subject requires a plural verb.

The correct answer is (D).

My question is this..

She is not and does not intend to run for political office.

(1) is not running and will not intend to
(2) has not and does not run
(3) is not and will not run
(4) is not running and does not intend to run

What is answer for this?
