The range of a set is 56. Its median number is 50 more than the lowest number, and mean > median, at least how many numbers are in this set?

A. 13
B. 15
C. 17
D. 19
E. 21

Better to backsolve, starting with C. 17

(0+8*50+8*56)/17 = 848/17 < 50 (almost = 50). not good enough.

so it's D, the next one.

The range of a series of integers is 56, and the median minus the least number is 50. If the average is greater than the median, at least how many numbers does the series have?

Is it 13?

Max - Lowest = 56
Median - Lowest = 50

so there are 6/7 numbers between Median and Max number, the same will be other side (number of integers less than median)

to the least total numbers : 6 + 6 + 1(median) = 13

I am not sure of the answer. I just came across the question. I also approached in a similar way as you did. I will try again and lets see if I can get to a solution.
