Re: The sum of 6 minutes, 35 seconds and 3 minutes, 20 seconds is approxim [#permalink]
Convert minutes in seconds

6*60+35+3*60+20
360+35+180+20= 595

Divide by 3600 to convert seconds in to hours

\(\frac{595}{3600}\)~\(\frac{600}{3600}\)~\(\frac{1}{6}\)~17%

The sum of 6 minutes, 35 seconds and 3 minutes, 20 seconds is approximately what percent of one hour?

A. 27%
B. 17%
C. 11%
D. 10%
E. 6%

Add minutes: (6+3) = 9 minutes
Add seconds: (30+25) = 55 seconds \(\approx{1}\) minute

(9 + 1) = 10 minutes
1 hour = 60 minutes

\(\frac{10}{60}=\frac{1}{6}*100 = (.167 * 100) = 16.7\) %

About 17%

\(\frac{( 6*60 + 35 ) + ( 3*60 + 20 )}{60*60}*100\)

= \(\frac{395 + 200}{3600}*100\)

= 16.53%

~ 17 % answer will be (B)
