At the end of last semester, all 33 students (11 from each of 3 sections) of a particular course were asked how many hours per week they spent studying for the course. This data was combined with the number of points earned by each student in the course. This information is presented in the graph. Grades in the course were calculated using a 20-point scale. To compute the grade, the number of points earned in the course was divided by 50 and then rounded up to the next whole number.Use the drop-down menus to complete each statement so that it is consistent with the information provided.

The median reported time spent studying for all students in the course was ___ hours per week.

A)2
B)2.5
C)3
D)3.5

Section ___ had the smallest average (arithmetic mean) reported time spent studying per week.

A)
B)
C)

The median reported time spent studying for all students in the course was ___ hours per week

Median of 33 values = (33 + 1)/2 = 34/2 = 17th value (Either in ascending or descending order)
In ascending order
No. of students who studies 1 hour = 5 [Cumulative = 5]
No. of students who studies 2 hours = 9 [Cumulative = 14]
No. of students who studies 3 hours = 8 [Cumulative = 22]

Median = 17th term --> 3 hours

Option C

Section ___ had the smallest average (arithmetic mean) reported time spent studying per week

Observation:

We can see Section C has the least number of study hours per week (As highest value of Section C is just 4 and only 1 student out of 11)

Option C

Median should be the 17th value, which is 3hrs - option C.

Average for section C would be the least because, sections A and B have a few students who have spent >4hrs while section C doesnt.
