Between ... and -> I think the only correct choice is (B).
But I’m not convinced: “those believe the universe began with” -> we need a “that” here, right after “believe” to begin the subordinate clause “universe began with”.

1. This is a simple idiom question. The correct idiom is 'between and both' only, as in B. All others are wrong.
2. There are situations in which one can drop the connector 'that'. In addition, the use of 'that' is beyond the scope of this question as it is supposed to fall under the non-underlined part, after all.
