This question is testing verb tenses. It begins with “since” + past time. In the context of this sentence, we have something that started in the past and continues to the present day. So we need the present perfect tense. Thus we can rule out B, D, and E.
This question also tests punctuation. A list such as this must begin with a colon, not a semicolon. Thus we can rule out C and E.
A: Correct
BDE: Incorrect tense: present perfect for continuation
CE: Incorrect usage of semicolon for a list

As since is present, we need to use the Present Perfect tense. have fallen
