I struggle with the VICs questions. Conceptually I know what I’m supposed to do to set up the solution, however I keep getting stuck and am not able to set up the solution clearly. Even picking smart numbers doesn’t help. I’ve been using magoosh gmat prep for almost two months and still struggle with these questions. Any tips or advice on how to grasp these questions so I can feel confident on test day?

Problem solving. Here is an ex: it takes 1 pound of flour to make y cakes. The price of flour is w dollars for x pounds. In terms of w, x, and y, what is the dollar cost of the flour required to make 1 cake. I understand how to do this problem now but questions like this where you need to express the answer in terms of variables are difficult for me. Thanks.

Hi,

I struggled a lot too with VIC questions.
I read that you should quickly think of smart numbers or try figuring out the logic.

But in all honestly, the only thing that really helps is practice and finding what method works for you.

For some people numbers work more easily and they are able to arrive at an answer sooner. For others logic comes very easy and they are able to reach a definitive answer.

The best way to improve would be to do 15 to 20 such questions without time to get a hang of it and figure what will work for you.

You can then start practicing them with time.
Use either forum quiz or directly search the forums and practice these questions.
