Marysville Property Management Company provides services to owners of residential apartment complexes. Leasing, rental contracts, routine maintenance, and repairs are provided by MPMC, with some major repairs contracted to third parties. In-house staff members include a resident manager for each complex, an on-call maintenance crew based out of MPMC’s office facilities, and a general operations manager. A minimum population for each complex is set at 180 residents or 135 units. Requests for maintenance from residents for plumbing, electrical, or heating and cooling problems performed by the MPMC maintenance crew are charged to the client at standard base rates, plus time and material exceeding the base.
• Maintenance staff labor rates: $18/hour, or $23/hour for after-hours and holidays.
• Minor repairs during business hours: $35/hour.
• Plumbing or electrical calls: $65 per call, plus a $50 surcharge for after-hours or holiday calls.
• Annual heating and cooling checkups: $45 per unit.
• Carpet, roofing, and rehab contractors: charged case-by-case, plus a 10% premium to MPMC.
Annual staff labor costs for MPMC are calculated as follows:
1. The operations manager has a yearly salary of $52,780.
2. Resident managers receive free apartments as part of their compensation: 4 apartment rentals valued between $9,360 and $10,700, totaling $39,800.
3. Resident manager salaries range from $28,600 to $37,300, with an average of $32,000; the total annual amount paid is $128,000.
4. The maintenance staff (3 employees) is paid a total of $112,000 annually.

In Services tab: "A minimum population for each complex is set at 180 residents or 135 units" In Charges tab: "Annual heating and cooling checkups are $45 per unit." Total cost for 3 units= 3*135*45= 18225
Bismuth83 Your solution is correct. However, how do you suppose that 180*3= 540 people live in exactly 135*3= 405 units? The text cite only that the population is equal to the minimum. It doesn't specify nothing for the units. Thx in advance
Good point! If the minimum requirement is met exactly by units, then everything works. However, if the requirement is met by having 180 residents, it doesn't mean that exactly 135 units are used.
What I can say is that we're approximating this information, since the question doesn't ask for an exact answer: "The total charges ... is closest to." In other words, for every 180 residents, 135 units are used.
I hope that helped!

Regarding the question sentence "The total charges for providing annual heating and cooling checkups for all units in each of the three apartment complexes is closest to", doesn't it mean the charges for each of the apartment (45*135)? Why does it mean the charges for all three apartments (45*135*3)?
Exactly my query. "EACH" kinda negates the multiplier of 3.
