Hi Everyone,
I'm also applying to MAcc programs for 2011 and my first choice school is USC.

So far I am applying to USC and UTA, and maybe other schools that don't require an accounting undergrad.

Here are my stats:
Current GPA: 3.5 (UCLA, International Dev. Studies Major/English Minor)
GMAT: Taking it in one month!

I'm currently at UCLA, and I am really hoping to get into USC(yes, my rival school lol) since I love Southern California and would like to stay in the area even after I graduate.

Is anyone here attending the info session at USC next week?

Decided I won't be applying to Texas MPA. Leaning towards USC MAcc + Grad Certificate for Financial Analysis.

Umm, because when the placement stats show that only 5% get into banking, you shouldn't expect to be one of the 5%. When 88% get into public accounting, then you can probably expect to be in the 88% if you work hard and want to do public accounting...

True. But you should consider that many of the students don't have any desire to do banking/consulting. I'm not sure what percentage try to get banking jobs, but I imagine most MPA students are solely looking at Big 4. The ones who want to do banking can do it from undergrad; they don't need the MPA.

I have to agree with you though on one thing. He shouldn't attend UT with the idea it will land a banking position. The MPA degree is more flexible than most programs, so there may be that option; but I wouldn't depend on it.

Agree with this, but I am focusing on volunteer, professional organizations, and internships/jobs that are related to Finance right now. Most students in accounting programs strongly prefer working in accounting due to self-selection bias.

Also, the Master in Accounting will probably be treated as an undergrad degree, so the person would start at the analyst level rather than associate from a JD/MBA/other


I am surprised there are few applying to UVA & Michigan as the firms that recruit them would probably top-notch or Notre Dame for the strong alumni network.

I got accepted to Wake Forest today. Really quick decision, it has been a week and a half since I submitted my application online, and a few days since I've gotten my last pieces in (I believe transcripts came in about four days ago, and my last letter of recommendation came in two days ago). I thought that they required an interview, but I guess that's not the case.
For all of those applying to Wake Forest, try to get it in by Jan. 1st. They waive the $100 application fee if you do.

Thanks for the info. Wake Forest is the #1 school on my list. I didn't know how I stacked up towards their admissions, but since my GPA and GMAT scores are comparable to yours (3.5 cumulative, degree in economics, 690 GMAT scores), I am more confident about the admissions process.

GMAT: 690, 45Q, 39Q (BTW: Here's a great piece of advice for the GMAT, DO NOT SPEND TOO MUCH TIME ON ANY QUESTION ON THE GMAT! I spent 7 minutes on the first math question, messed up my timing, had 6 questions to do with less than 2 minutes to go.)

GMAT: 570 Q 39 V30 AWA 5.5 (Looking to improve to 600+ over winter break)
Undergrad Major: Accounting (NY State School)
Applying to: ND, Texas A&M, Hofstra, Albany, UT Austin, BC

I am graduating in 3 years by taking winter and summer classes, which has taken time from studying for the GMAT.
Don't know what my chances are at some of the higher schools with the low GMAT.

Wow, what do you think the reason for the Vanderbilt rejection was? You're just below mean GPA and above GMAT mean.

Good Evening all,

I got in to Georgia State University's Master of Professional Accountancy program. I will end up going here because University of Georgia's program cannot make an admissions decision until May 2011 when they receive my Cost Accounting class grade.

That's a good question. Your guess would be as good as mine. I believe the statistics are a little deceiving because of the small class size. They try to get a diverse student body, so some of the GPA and GMAT scores are a little skewed. I thought I had a good chance, as they try to get get students from all over the country and I live in the Rocky Mountain area. It's unfortunate that many schools choose students for reasons other than education merits, but that's just the way it is. I was a little taken back with some of the questions that they asked on the application. Many I did not think were appropriate (like race, parent's colleges and universities, parent's career), but I guess they have to ask those questions to get a diverse student body.

got into wake on friday. had interviews w. bc and unc a couple of weeks ago.

I'm very close to comitting to Wake Forest. I like the internship program there, which I haven't seen at many other programs. They don't release scholarships until Feb 1st I believe.

I applied to the MSA program at Boston College and was notified that they wanted to schedule an interview. Does anyone know anything more about this? I know that typically interviews are not required for the program so is this a good sign or a bad sign?
