It's definitely doable. I applied from a country about as far away and much harder to get to logistically. You'll probably have to plan things out a bit more in regards to having everything in ahead of time and be pretty proactive about following up or talking to people from abroad.
In general I found that the admissions committees were very receptive to the issue and were actually pretty pleased when I showed up in person to speak to them about it. Also, from my personal experience it was really good to actually visit the school before applying. I know for a fact I would have done things differently/better if I had that opportunity before I submitted.
So, I'd maybe plan your trips back to coincide with the admissions season and you should be good (I did it in one, but I'd definitely recommend two if you can help it..I couldn't).
