Dear board,
I am an American that is living and working in Asia. I'm likely going to begin the process of applying to b-school in 2011, but I wanted to see what people's thoughts were on doing this from abroad? I live in Singapore and while I travel to the US 2-3 times a year, I still envisage that this could get tough (it takes me between 20-24 hours to reach the US from Singapore). I'm specifically referring to interviewing, campus visits, etc.
Also, will my distance provide a disadvantage to me at all in the process? For instance, will a US candidate of similar caliber have a leg up simply due to logistics?

It's definitely doable. I applied from a country about as far away and much harder to get to logistically. You'll probably have to plan things out a bit more in regards to having everything in ahead of time and be pretty proactive about following up or talking to people from abroad.
In general I found that the admissions committees were very receptive to the issue and were actually pretty pleased when I showed up in person to speak to them about it. Also, from my personal experience it was really good to actually visit the school before applying. I know for a fact I would have done things differently/better if I had that opportunity before I submitted.
So, I'd maybe plan your trips back to coincide with the admissions season and you should be good (I did it in one, but I'd definitely recommend two if you can help it..I couldn't).

Thanks, deechi. This helps a lot. I should be able to swing whatever trips/ interviews I need to make next fall, but it will be a challenge.
Did you find the international aspect of your resume to be particularly well received? I assume schools like LBS and Insead aren't the only schools that treasure international exposure?
