Mr. Evans will states that each of his children will receive an equal share of his estate and that his grandchildren will split a portion of the estate that is equal to the share received by each of his children. If Mr. Evans has 5 children and 6 grandchildren, then approximately what percentage of Mr. Evans estate will each grandchild receive?

(A) 20%
(B) 17%
(C) 4.0%
(D) 3.3%
(E) 2.8%

@mattapraveen: Shouldn't the answer be "D" ?

Here's my justification:

Let's say the total value of Mr. Evan's estate is 100. So, each of his 5 children will receive a share of 20. Therefore, each of his 6 grandchildren will receive 20/6 i.e. a share of 3.3. Hence, each grandchild will receive 3.3% of Mr Evan's estate (3.3/100 * 100).

Please share your thoughts on this.

No, E is correct. Ask yourself, if each of his 5 children will receive a share of 20, then what is left for his grandchildren?

Thanks Bunuel for clarifying. I was wrongly assuming the hierarchical splits (i.e- children receive first and then they pass on to grandchildren) :)

The wording here tricks you, got it wrong, but a tricky Word Question.
