I think the answer should be 25.

This is how i solved.

.24 of B = Remainder
.24 of B = 6

B = (6 *100) / 24 = 25.

When crosschecked with 6 / 25, u'll get an answer of 0.24

If u try to divide 6 / 48 , answer is 0.125

Sorry, I don't think I get the point..Can you help and explain it further pls :(

A/b = (quotient) + remainder/B = 47.24
(quotient ) = 47
remainder/B = 0.24
so remainder = 0.24 * B
6 = 0.24 * B
B = 6/0.24 = 25

I have a ques to ask..though it might be a very stupid one but need help..

When you did A/b = (quotient) + remainder/B = 47.24
why did you only divide remainder by B..is there a concept which i seem to miss..

I am putting my explanations.....See if you grasp it.
DeeptiM

Positive Integer A gives the remainder of 6 when divided by another positive Integer B. If A/B = 47.24, what is the value of B?

96
75
48
25
12
A/B = 47.24 = \(47\frac{24}{100}\) = \(47\frac{6}{25}\)

Any value of B should have the below two properties
1) Should be a factor of 100
2) Should be of the form\(\frac{24}{100}\) if the numerator and denominator are multiplied together

You can see that without going to the step#2, the answer is only D - 25

If you want a better understand the theory, go through Karishma's blogs....They are wonderful in the sense that she has articulated the thought process in easy to understand words....

Try a variant of this question -
If A/B = 47.24, which of the following can be a value of B?

A. 20
B. 50
C. 200
D. 250
E. 12

This can have multiple answers, so the question can be A,B,C,etc

I have discussed this concept in this post:
https://www.gmatclub.com/forum/veritas-prep-resource-links-no-longer-available-399979.html#/2011/05 ... emainders/

Thats a well crafted method

Thank you

A/B = 47.24

therefore 24/100 = 6/25 where 6 is the remainder and 25 is the divisor

Positive integer A gives the remainder of 6 when divided by another positive integer B. If A/B = 47.24, what is the value of B?

A. 96
B. 75
C. 48
D. 25
E. 12

\(x\) divided by \(y\) yields the remainder of \(r\) can always be expressed as: \(\frac{x}{y}=q+\frac{r}{y}\) (which is the same as \(x=qy+r\)), where \(q\) is the quotient and \(r\) is the remainder.

So, A gives the remainder of 6 when divided by B can be written as \(\frac{A}{B}=q+\frac{6}{B}\).

Next, given that \(\frac{A}{B}=47.24=47\frac{24}{100}=44\frac{6}{25}=44+\frac{6}{25}\), so according to the above \(\frac{6}{B}=\frac{6}{25}\), so \(B=25\).

Answer: D.

Hope it's clear.
