How does the class size(75) of Desautels compare with other canadian b-schools which have class sizes of more than 300 ?
I found only 500 Desautels connections on LinkedIn as compared to others schools which have more than 10000.

Does it mean lack of networking and alumni support during and after MBA ?

The size of the network is highly overrated IMO. The quality of it is what really matters. For instance, it happens frequently that smaller programs have graduates who feel very passionate about their school and are always open to help younger people. You ideally want people like this, and even better if they are in the location and industry where you want to work. The advantage of having a very large network however is that by sheer probabilities you are likely to find a graduate that can guide you wherever and whatever you want to do. In sum, I think you need to figure out what you want to do and see if the network offered by Desautels can help you achieve that: as small as Desautels's network might be, it is the best you can find for a career in Montreal, for instance. On the opposite, say HBS or Wharton, have thousands of graduates but I wonder how many would be in Montreal.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the network can be very important to land your first job, but very soon after that it will become less relevant.

EDIT: A very easy way to find out the kind of network you will get is to directly email a few people. For instance, looking on LinkedIn for a few graduates, and sending an email where you politely introduce yourself, explain to the point what you want to do after an MBA, explain why you think Desautels can help you achieve that, and then kindly ask them if they share your view and would encourage you to apply or enroll. When I did this, I found in general that people from smaller programs were a lot better at writing back with feedback than those from larger ones.

I raised this issue here a couple of weeks ago. You can check the previous few pages of the topic.
I am considering - and this is one of the reasons for retaking the GMAT - working as a GMAT instructor . Many centers are close to the campus and you have flexibility in working hours. If you are a 99%ile you can apply to Manhattan or to a Canadian institute called Oxford. What I am 100% sure of is that Manhattan pay 100$/hour . .My opinion , a year from your life is much more expensive than any sum of money .I would go for my dream school even if I will overload myself financially for sometime.

1- Princeton Review targets a minimum of 640 ... which is not distant from my target frame , anyway I am still considering back up plans if this GMAT teaching option does not work.

2- My personal belief is that 365 days from a person's life are much more precious than any sum of money . If it were me , I would not wait till next year even if this would burden me financially for some time.

3- Yes , 120% :-D they mentioned this on their website : 100$ per working hour and 20$ for every hour of your training . Veritas also pay the same but they have a center in Toronto ONLY not in Montreal .i.e only online option would be available

4-for the sake of 3 letters on which my whole working experience depended : ROI = return of investment .It is all about the comparison between revenues and expenses : I would be "overloaded" for some time if I would earn more on the long run . I took several degrees thinking this way , and , most important , planned this way for every training I delivered and every account in my territory when I used to work in sales and it always proved worthwhile...at least relatively to my objectives and expectations.This was made me suggest the idea but certainly it all depends on his own choice and what he believes is suitable for him in the end .

5- I could not understand . could you please elaborate more ?

I have to pay my reservation fee by April 30th;

Had been searching for financing options for my enrolment and I am getting a loans here in India at 15% (17% including starting fee) interest rate.

Does it make sense to go for eduction loan at this high interest rate? Should I try next year in schools which offer non consignor loan options or try for better scholarships.

Can an MBA student work while enrolled in McGill's MBA program. If yes, what component of the MBA cost can be covered by working.

Good luck with whatever you choose . My advice is to start from now planning for the next step in order not to face the same situation again.What are the available options to fund an MBA ? what suits you best ? what is plan B ? and plan C? Above all , which schools will meet both criteria , financial and academic , for you ?

By the way my own back up plan for Mcgill is Concordia's John Molson .They are reasonable in cost and accept two classes a year : Fall and winter .So if you are interested in Montreal specifically you can consider this option as well .

Hey guys,
How long does it take for McGill to process an application?
This is said in their website :Admission decisions are usually rendered within four weeks following receipt of complete applications with all supporting documents.

I submitted my application in March, even if it was March 15th, it already has been 1.5month. They haven't even invited me for an interview. They haven't told me if my documents are not complete, or I've been rejected.

I've contacted school for 1000times, everytime J! says I'll talk to P! tommorrow then he goes and forgets all about it. He even told me he will talk to P to schedule my interview for tommorrow but i haven't heard form him for few days.

How long should I wait??
I think they may have decided and just stringing me along for fun!
I'm tired of waiting and getting no answers.
Do you know whom (else) I can contact to see about my application?

How long did it take for you guys to get an interview invitation and how long after that to heas about your result?

Sorry to hear that you are being given the delayed response. Perhaps you could speed up the process by telling J that Rotman needs an answer from you asap and that you're waiting on the final word from McGill in order to make your decision. There's no sense going through anyone other than J, my suggestion would be to take it in stride, remain courteous and cross your fingers.

I did tell J all these. I told him about my other admissions and scked him if he can help me get an answer sooner. He promised to talk to Pina and do what he can. That was 2weeks ago. Since then I have emailed him each week to see if he has done anything? Again another promise and then nothing. The last promise he gave me was on Monday and told me he will arrange for the interview for Thursday. It's Friday and I have not even recieved an answwr from him.
Concordia deadline was yesterday and I didn't give them the deposit.

My status in Minerva has been "ready for review" for at least 3weeks yet no change.

What else can I do?
If I'm rejected why can't they tell me already? If they haven't reviewd it , well then come forth and tell the truth. Tell me i can recieve an answer next year , that's okay but what's with the hide and seek?
Carl, since you are in the school can you asked them what's going on and give me an update?
If McGill is not going to happen for me, i need to get a move on next years applications (take GMAT again). I don't want to miss 90% of the deadlines agaian.

Concordia has a January Class , try to contact them and defer your offer one semester ... losing a few months is better then losing a year .

Independently of your comments in the Concordia thread, I would not and will not prod the administration at McGill on your behalf. I don`t know anything about you or the way in which you`ve already corresponded to the Desautels administration. Essentially, I can`t give a reference to someone I don`t know. And though I have been accepted, I am not yet immune to the effects of pissing the wrong people off. You`re on your own, just like the rest of us.

Check your box, vinay1s. The thing is that I never had my interview. :)

mehrabounr - things are like that not only for you. I am almost in the same "shoes". I think it is because of their hectic schedule at this time of the year. I think CarlMtl had a quick review, because he has applied a lot earlier than any of us, AND another reason may be that he is local. So, don't compare the review timing for your application with that of others.
You already let the AdCom know about yourself and as far as I understand, you were very persistent in that. So, you can only wait for their decision now and save your nerves for something else. :) As long as Jonathan is in touch with you, he remembers that you are waiting for him and AdCom team decision. If you keep pushing, even J will stop answering your inquiries some day.
Even if you get a "reject" in the end, don't feel upset about it. And next time - learn your lesson and make sure to apply as early as possible. C'est la vie, man!

Concordia deadline was yesterday and I didn't give them the deposit.

Let's be honest, you missed the deadline because you wanted to. :) I mean, if you had a real interest in Concordia and did not want to risk with such opportunity, you would forget about the process of Desautels (which is so confusing for you) and take their offer. I believe you did not like what Concordia had to offer you, otherwise you would not let it go.
Again, I am not saying that long review process of Desautels is justified, but you have no choice but accepting it since you are not (as me) their most wanted candidate. :)

Personally I have no idea , but from my working experience when we hired an employee it was sufficient to interview him/her and have originals of his documentation.

Background checks should be must for all candidates, specially international; here in India we do not hire anyone without background checks....


BTW.. My status update: I have decided to appear for GMAT again (may, end), i guess 700 is not good enough for an Indian candidate, so aiming for 750 this time :)

If 700 wasn`t a good enough GMAT for you to gain admission, the problem in your potential candidacy may lie elsewhere. I would look into possible ways of rounding out your work experience or extra curriculars in order to improve your chances. That`s just my humble opinion though, certainly improving your GMAT score further can`t do anything but help you.
