Hi GCbers,

I have been put on the waitlist of a top 15 school and desparately want to break in. Can anyone sugggest courses/classes/certificates in Mathematics or Quant Finance that I can take to show the adcom?

The general rule is that you want to take these type of classes at the best local institution that you can. The whole point of these courses is to demonstrate your ability to succeed in an academically rigorous environment; taking an online math class offered at a community college is not going to do this. With that said, the defacto university that most people in Socal (don't know where you are from) attend for alternate transcripts is UCLA Extensions.

If academics are the issue with your candidacy -- then you should consider taking additional classes to show your academic interests and abilities. However, make sure that you get a very high grade in the class.

Do not worry about the quality of institution you take these classes at or the venue. You might also want to consider taking on-line classes if you schedule is unpredictable or you do not have an institution that is convenient. However, no matter the class or venue, make sure you take the class for a grade.

Hi smartguydexter

Instead of enrolling in a course/class/certificate in Mathematics, how about gaining a three-month experience during which you demonstrate that you have the leadership ability to develop and implement strategic plans within diverse team settings? That is what volunteer strategy consultants do for local non-profits and small businesses in need.

Organizations such as SCORE, Net Impact, USALC and Taproot would be great resources to partner with to make a lasting impact on an organization in need.
