There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
I'm getting into my IR/AWA/Verbal studying in July and wanted to get some opinions on the IR section.
I was very disappointed with my performance in this section the last time I took the test (my first time seeing this section). I got 5 (52nd percentile) and know I can do a lot better.
I picked up the MGMAT IR book and wasn't really satisfied with it. It was okay and I'm sure the additional practice will be helpful but I didn't feel it was as helpful as their other guides. Since this is such a new topic, should I just pick up the 13th edition? The only reason I'm hesitant about that is that I already have the 12th and don't know that the IR section would be much better than what MGMAT offered. Does anyone have any recommendations for free resources that are comparable to what I'd get with 13th edition?
Thanks.

Ryan, I don't understand your worry over quality of MGMAT. Buying a new guide should not be required prima facie as it is a new section.also with your score you should search for free resources online and get over the basic mistakes or the bony hill for your best game and then ramp up in prep as well than do all 11 questions in one sitting from day one. Let me know what else you intend to do in your study plan that i can help

Thanks for your response. I wanted to be as prepared as possible and while I thought that MGMAT wouldn't be sufficient, I ended up scoring an 8 on the last GMATPrep test in this section. So I'll continue using that resource and reading articles on certain question types but I'm much more confident after seeing that score. The 5 last time around had me worried that the jump would be difficult but I think that I've got the hang of it.
Thanks again and I'll definitely let you know if I hit a road block. I will be contacting MGMAT this week to unlock the question set from this guide.

Brought my Quant up to 44, but my verbal went down a couple of points. Overall, though, happy with my results. Went from 0 for 1 in applications in 2012 to 2 for 2 in 2013!
Thanks for checking in! Hope things are going well with you.
