would you please write about your study materials and your opinion about them?

I mostly used the Kaplan Premier Program book. I had no idea what I was doing when I bought it but I think the structure worked pretty well for me. Unless it was a topic where I was very green (like statistics) I felt like I could skip the content review and go directly to the practice questions. I started with the practice questions that are included in the different review sections. They where ordered in such a way that every day I could get the hang a couple of things before moving on to the next. After I had gone through all the topics, I started with the long question sets at the end. I didn’t really read any of the strategies the books suggests, but I think the way it is structured helps you learn them hands on.
After I finished those I just did whatever practice questions I could get my hands on. The Kaplan book gave me some structure to start with and after that it was more about quantity than anything else.

Very nice posting.

Towards the middle you wrote "Someone lent me Math Kevin Armstrong...". What is this?

Thanks and kudos.

¡Muchas gracias!

First, although I haven’t really studied English (aside from what is usual in a Spanish school) and I do commit grammatical errors, my comprehension is above average. My mother spoke English so home was a Spanglish environment and I try to watch movies, play videogames or read in English. Every bit counts, but it is a slow process and I’m guessing this is not very useful advice.

Even with that, in the beginning I made many mistakes in RC & CR, even missing 50%. My problem wasn't in understanding the texts but the questions. So I just did a ton of practice questions and kept a very simple error log. I carried a small notebook tracing the questions I had answered and when I missed, a small line explaining the correct approach. A quick look at the error log allowed me to read fast this advice, and when it was a mistake I committed a lot, it was like hammering the correct approach into my head.

This is why I think a little bit each day is better than a sprint. Instead of memorizing you assimilate the rules. During the test, when in doubt, I always picked whatever came first to my head, because I had done it and read it so many times it came natural.

The other thing is that I think error logs should be positive. Never write your error, write only the correct approach, underlining whatever you need to emphasize. Work on positive reinforcement.

Thanks,

The truth is I didn’t really look into it untill now. I thought it was part of a prep book, but it was a compilation of the tougher math problems from somebody at our office that had taken a GMAT course with a guy called Kevin Armstrong.
