From 550 to 700+ (4 months)

Hi All,
I am new here. As recommended by this forum, I just did my first CAT before starting to study for the Gmat. I have used Kaplan's free test. Got a 550 just after getting a little bit familiar with Gmat type of questions. I’ve never taken a Gmat exam before, this is all new for me.
Got a 55 percentile on Quant (guess this equals to Q42) and 35 percentile on Verbal (guess this equals to V24). I plan to start studding this weekend and my exam is already scheduled for May 16th, which is 4 months from now.

I bought OG13 + Official Quant review + Official Verbal review as preparation. I believe I still have a lot to improve in order to achieve my target of 700+. Especially, I need a huge improvement in Verbal (SC was my weakest score ).

Any advice regarding my preparation? I study plan comprises 10h per week, probably totaling 160h at the end of the period. Is this enough?

First of all, I think you are at a very good starting point. It's good that you have purchased the OG but I would HIGHLY recommend that you get the Manhattan GMAT guide set which covers all of the concepts in depth. Once you go through each guide, you can then work through the assigned OG questions. Make sure to keep an error log to track your mistakes. Going through these books will take you around 2 months (assuming you do at least 2 to 3 hours per day). You can use the last 2 months to go over your errors and do practice exams (6 of which will come from Manhattan GMAT if you choose to purchase their books, and 2 free ones from MBA.com). . how can i get access to the 2 gmat club free CATs after buying the manhattan guides? Moreover, does anyone recommend the Manhattan Advanced GMAT Quant: GMAT Strategy Supplement ? I really would like to get a good quant score. Is SC manhattan guide the best theoretical guide for SC or do you prefer the gmat club ultimate grammar? Thanks in advance to anyone that can post additional suggestions

This is where you can get the free GMAT Club tests https://gmatclub.com/tests/ The Advanced GMAT Quant guide will only be useful if you are scoring above 45 in Quant, so I recommend you go through the basic guides first. As far as SC, there is no better guide that Manhattan's SC book. You can check the link below and see what other people used for their prep. You can't be sure of the difficulty level of the Kaplan test that you took. I would recommend taking the diagnostic test given in the OG '13 and stick to whatever the instructions for timing are. That will not only give you an idea of where you stand, but also give you an idea of your weak areas. From there you will have a starting point to clear out your weak areas first. Wish you luck!
